My colleague Daniel Boffey is in Lviv, and sends this report on overnight pursuits in the north of Ukraine:
Russian shells have bombarded the besieged Ukrainian metropolis of Chernihiv overnight, its mayor has spoke of, simply hours after the Kremlin claimed it might halt attacks there and in Kyiv out of respect for ongoing peace talks.
Vladyslav Atroshenko referred to the Russians had lied and were continuing to indiscriminately assault the encircled city, which is less than a hundred miles north of the country's capital.
Authorities in Chernihiv estimate that about 400 individuals have died considering that Russia's invasion of Ukraine all started on 24 February, with civilians residing now with out electricity, gasoline or water.
Atroshenko talked about: "The evening changed into just as we expected, that [everything Russia promised] is a lie from the starting till the end, that's why at night we had some serious shelling at evening. And the Russians had been making an attempt to smash all viable means of crossing Desna River towards Kyiv."
Atroshenko, who has called for Kyiv now not to swap captured pilots who had operated above Chernihiv for Ukrainian prisoners of conflict, talked about there had been no facts any withdrawal over the remaining 24 hours from round his metropolis.
He pointed out: "The locals are living in a real humanitarian crisis for weeks without a electricity, no heating, no water, best in some areas of the metropolis there's fuel [natural gas, not petrol]. thousands of constructions are destroyed. the day gone by our district, Liotka, become shelled principally heavily, where a number of people died and dozens had been injured. "have you ever met liars in your life? What stands at the back of their lies? They are just liars. They lie all of the time!"
